More power for omnichannel fulfillment in retailing
REWE digital spin-off starts as independent Software providers
The retail sector in Germany is undergoing a transformation process. Operators of stationary stores only have a future if they dovetail their branch network with fully-fledged e-commerce offerings and integrate future-oriented services such as Click & Collect. The biggest challenge here is the digital and technological backlog demand. This is where the new start-up “OC fulfillment GmbH” with its “fulfillmenttools” platform comes in. Emerging from REWE digital’s innovation hub, the service provider has set itself the goal of supporting market participants from all industries in building their own omnichannel experience world. In doing so, OC fulfillment acts independently, with an experienced team of founders and developers with many years of expertise. The young company is the first spin-off of REWE digital, which is thus independently making its proven and successful solutions available to all retail companies.
Based on the “in-store fulfillment” approach, the “fulfillmenttools” platform quickly and profitably takes e-commerce fulfillment for retail companies to the next level: from the internal distribution of orders to the optimal processing location to the order transfer to the shipping service provider – all processes are mapped in the cloud-based solution. The platform is industry-independent and is aimed primarily at high-growth omnichannel retailers, whereby it can be specifically adapted to the respective customer needs.
“‘fulfillmenttools’ stands for a modular architecture that can be seamlessly linked to the established IT landscape of retail companies. Our solutions simplify, improve and make more efficient the entire process from receipt of the order to handover in the store and delivery to the customer’s home,” says Björn Dröschel, Managing Director of OC fulfillment GmbH.
Flexibly scalable and easy to integrate
The Cologne-based start-up thus offers flexibly scalable solutions for the intelligent distribution of orders. In a so-called “Distributed Order Management System (DOMS)”, the individual orders are distributed to the appropriate fulfillment locations depending on predefined parameters such as inventory, distance to the customer, etc. In stores or fulfillment centers, the respective steps for picking and shipping are then digitally supported (“In-Store Fulfillment & Shipping Integration” solution). The special feature: All modules can be easily integrated into existing systems.
Good from experience, with many advantages for dealers
Retailers benefit from better utilization of their store resources and, thanks to the digital solutions, streamline processes for cost and time savings. At the same time, they increase their service level by expanding the available assortment and enabling fast delivery times.
Thanks to its broad e-commerce expertise, including in the food and non-food sectors (REWE Lieferservice, REWE Abholservice, REWE Paketservice and Penny Online) as well as wine (Weinfreunde.de) and pet supplies (ZooRoyal.de), the start-up is equipped with both pioneering spirit and experience from leading omnichannel developments. The current staff of around 30 employees at the Carlswerk in Cologne-Mülheim is constantly developing the platform further, driven by the goal of offering innovative, user-friendly solutions for all retail companies on the market as an independent company.
